Justin Sun Has High Odds of Going to Dinner with Donald Trump
The creator of the Tron (TRX) blockchain, Justin Sun, often makes headlines in the cryptocurrency space. As it turned out, Sun seems to be trying to receive an invitation to have dinner with US pro-crypto president Donald Trump.
US President announced dinner with top TRUMP investors
According to the data shared by blockchain analyst Lookonchain on X (formerly Twitter), Justin Sun is the number one candidate to have dinner with the recently elected US president Trump. This is indicated by the fact that a wallet named “Sun” is the largest holder of the meme coin TRUMP launched by the president in January 2025, a few days before taking office in the White House. Many of his supporters bought into that coin immediately, as well as those who hoped to see high profits, and saw the coin stage a massive rise in the first days after the launch.
Trump has announced an opportunity for top investors in his token to meet him over dinner, thus hinting that this would be a reward for its largest holders. After this announcement was made on Wednesday last week, the TRUMP price jumped by more than 50% as the market reacted to this statement and investors began their frantic accumulation. If Justin Sun indeed plans to have dinner with Donald Trump, he seems to have a high chance of succeeding. Besides, in his long-standing career in the crypto space, this would not be the first attention-grabbing meeting with a major figure from the world of finance.
Justin Sun’s lunch with Warren Buffett in 2020
Back in 2019, Sun’s massive bid of a whopping $4.5 million during a charity auction won him a chance to have lunch with the legend of the finance world, Berkshire Hathaway chairperson Warren Buffett. The lunch, however, was delayed several times, but it eventually did take place in early 2020. That was the twentieth anniversary lunch run by Buffett’s late wife and her Glide Foundation charity. However, Sun went further than that. He did not arrive at the lunch alone, since his “ticket” allowed him to bring several friends. Among those who came along were the Litecoin founder Charlie Lee, and eToro CEO Yonni Assia. Sun also invited his friend and mentor CZ (the CEO of Binance at the time), but the latter refused, citing his busy schedule. Instead of him came the head of Binance Charity Foundation, Helen Hai.
Buffett is a renowned Bitcoin critic, who referred to BTC as “rat poison squared” during a Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ meeting in 2018. After that, he also called Bitcoin a “delusion,” saying that it “attracts charlatans.” After lunch, Sun shared that during the lunch, they talked about Bitcoin, Tesla, and his own project, Tron, as well as cryptocurrency in general. At the end of the event, Sun presented Buffett with the latest model of a Samsung smartphone loaded with one Bitcoin and 2 million TRX. However, later on, the legendary investor admitted that he had given that smartphone away for charity since he still rejected crypto. At the end of the lunch, Sun set a date for a “reunion” lunch in 2030.
A year ago, Sun shared on X that the lunch with Buffett had a great impact on him, and he thought that it was certainly worth paying $4.5 million for the one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the legendary investor and discuss his ideas with him. In that X post, Sun also claimed that Buffett still holds the phone with an embedded crypto wallet that Sun gave him as a present.
Who knows, perhaps now Sun intends to do the same with Donald Trump and use this opportunity. Unlike Buffett, Trump is totally pro-crypto. He accepted cryptocurrency donations during his election campaign and has blessed the creation of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (a digital Fort Knox) in the US to make the country a global cryptocurrency hub and the global leader in the digital economy of the future.
Sun and Eric Trump to attend Token2049 Dubai
Last week, Justin Sun also announced his plans to attend the annual Token2049 Dubai conference. This suggests that he wants to approach Trump’s family from another angle – one of the key speakers at this remarkable and prestigious event will be Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump, and the founder of Donald Trump’s family investment fund, World Liberty Finance, Zach Witkoff. Sun did not say anything about a potential formal meeting with Eric Trump. However, he tagged both Trump Jr. and Witkoff in his tweet, saying: “See you in Dubai!” This may suggest that Sun could be positioning himself as a major figure not only in the Asian cryptocurrency market but also increasing his role in the US political circles.
Donald Trump has increased his focus on the crypto space, not only through signing an executive order to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and approving the US crypto stash, which includes not only Bitcoin, but also such top altcoins as ETH, XRP, ADA, etc. In the first week of January, Trump had dinner with two top Ripple executives – the CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, and Ripple’s chief legal officer, Stuart Alderoty. The subject of their talk was not disclosed. However, the community was led to believe that after that, the long-running legal case of the SEC against Ripple would be over.
This indeed happened soon afterwards as the new SEC’s new acting chairman, Mark T. Uyeda, ordered that the SEC drop all its legal cases against crypto companies. The new chairman, Paul Atkins, who was sworn in last week, promised to focus on creating a crypto regulation framework that would allow crypto companies to work in the US without any unnecessary pressure.
